Cheryl Sobeski Reedy

As Jake’s daughter, I truly believe that my father would have wanted me to continue his legacy.  His father was a school board member for Pittston Area School District for many years and my father was first elected to the Wyoming Area School Board in 1975 at age 37, devoting over thirty years of his time and efforts to the District.

I believe that I have the perfect mix of qualities to serve as a competent Wyoming Area School Board Director.  I am an attorney, parent, taxpayer and Wyoming Area graduate.

As an attorney, I believe I can bring professionalism, mediation skills, ethics, candor and honesty to the table.  As a parent, I can sympathize with other parents who want the best and safest education possible for their children.  As a taxpayer and owner of a newer home, I can sympathize with those finding it difficult to pay their tax bills.  As a Wyoming Area graduate, I have nothing but pride and admiration for the school as it was and is, and would like to keep it as a place that future generations can be proud of.

I am a Wyoming Area 1985 summa cum laude graduate and received a Presidential Scholarship to Marist College, New York, where I graduated ninth in my class with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Journalism.  I also spent a year studying English and Political Science abroad at Manchester College, Oxford University, England.  I went on to obtain my Juris Doctorate degree from Hofstra University, New York, and have been a practicing attorney in Luzerne County for the past thirteen years. I am presently a Luzerne County Assistant Public Defender and am associated with the law offices of Johnston & Johnston, Kingston.  I was chosen the first female president of the Young Lawyers’ Division of the Luzerne County Bar Association, where I organized and volunteered for many community service projects, benefiting numerous charitable causes.

Personally, I, at age 40, am married for ten years to John J. Reedy, III, a corporate recruiting manager for US Foodservice, Pittston; and am the mother of a five-year-old son.  We, like you, have chosen to live and raise our family in Wyoming Area.

I believe that I can be an asset to our school board and welcome the opportunity to serve in my father’s seat.  It is with great pride and respect for my father and a desire to do what is beneficial for the children and taxpayers of our district, that I ask for your support.
